MICHELLE POSSUM NUNGURRAYI

Michelle Possum Nungurrayi (born 1970, Mt Allan, Northern Territory) is an Anmatyerre artist celebrated for her vibrant depictions of Country and Dreaming stories passed down through her family. The daughter of renowned painter Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri AO and sister of Gabriella Possum Nungurrayi, Michelle was taught to paint by her father from a young age, inheriting both his technical skill and deep understanding of storytelling through art.

Her paintings draw on Dreamings from her ancestral Country at Yuelamu, including Seven Sisters, Bush Tucker, Fire Dreaming, and Grandmother’s Country. Through intricate networks of dots, tracks, and symbols, Michelle maps the sacred sites, waterholes, and pathways that connect her people to the land.

Now based in Melbourne, Michelle continues to share her culture with audiences across Australia and internationally. Her work reflects a living connection to Country, one that celebrates heritage, family, and the enduring strength of Anmatyerre tradition.
