CARA SHIELDS - Wiradjuri Artist
75cm x 60cm
Yellow Ochre on canvas
Scar tree country series is a contemporary view of the landscape of Cara's childhood. Drawing inspiration from the intricate regrowth lines from Scar Trees present in the Dubbo area to the deep carving lines of dendroglyph trees.
Three circles represent Wellington, Dubbo and Narromine. Townships that are on the traditional grounds of the Wiradjuri and Wongaibon people.
Carvings into the tree trunk were thick geometrical lines that could be wavy, square, diamond, straight and triangular. Bold linework that could be seen from afar.
Thick yellow ochre lines start the foundation, then layers of multiple acrylic lines on top.
This is to represents multiple layers of carving as well as weathering lines that can occur.
