JASMINE COE Garray (Sand)

Garray, meaning sand in Wiradjuri, reflects on the relationship between people and Country through the simple act of placing one’s feet on the land — embedding presence, connection and memory into the earth.

Footsteps become a quiet record of being there: a temporary trace of movement and experience. Through repeated lines, Jasmine draws upon traditional Wiradjuri linear expression to evoke these pathways and the sense of connection created through walking across Country.

The work also reflects Yindyamarra, a Wiradjuri way of moving with respect, care and consideration. Garray considers connection alongside responsibility, reminding us to move lightly through the natural world, leaving Country unchanged and carrying only the experience of having been there.
