JASMINE COE Guyang (Fire)

Guyang, meaning fire in Wiradjuri, celebrates the cultural and spiritual significance of fire as a powerful symbol of healing, cleansing, renewal and connection to land and ancestors.

Fire holds an important place within cultural practice. Smoke can purify, protect and heal land, body and Spirit, while the careful use of fire has long played a vital role in caring for Country and maintaining balance within the landscape. These practices continue to hold cultural significance today, strengthening relationships between people, place and ancestral knowledge.

Through Guyang, Jasmine honours fire not as a force of destruction, but as one of transformation and renewal. The work reflects ideas of resilience, continuity and restoration, recognising fire as a living presence within Country and as a symbol of the enduring strength of culture, connection and belonging.
