MICHELLE POSSUM NUNGURRAYI Grandmother's Country
In Grandmother’s Country, Michelle Possum Nungurrayi pays tribute to the ancestral homelands and teachings passed down through generations of Anmatyerre women. The work maps the sacred sites, waterholes, and pathways connected to her grandmother’s Country at Mt Allan (Yuelamu), a place rich with stories of ceremony, kinship, and women’s Law.
Michelle portrays both the physical terrain and the spiritual essence of Country, a living presence that sustains identity, culture, and community. The daughter of renowned artist Clifford Possum Tjapaltjarri, Michelle continues her family’s legacy by weaving ancestral narratives into vibrant expressions of belonging and cultural continuity.
